MBA student goes missing after falling into Uttarakhand’s Gangnahar canal

ROORKEE: An MBA second-year student at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee went missing on Wednesday evening after reportedly slipping into the Gangnahar canal, police said.Ashish Shukla, 30, a resident of Gokulnagar in Varanasi, had gone to the Ganga canal near the Nagar Nigam bridge with a group of friends at around 7 pm. According to preliminary reports, he was standing near the edge when he lost his balance and fell into the fast-flowing water.His friends immediately raised the alarm and attempted to rescue him, but he was swept away by the strong current before help could arrive.A large number of locals gathered at the scene soon after the incident. Senior Sub-Inspector Manoj Gairola of the Civil Lines police station conducted a preliminary inquiry and recorded statements from eyewitnesses.Police said a team from the Jal Police, along with divers, has been deployed to search for the missing student.
